About SITI

Business owners, residents, and other stakeholders have united behind a non-profit organisation called SITI – the Stellenbosch Improvement and Transformation Initiative.

As a Special Ratings Area (SRA), SITI collects a levy from property owners based on the municipal value of their properties within the central town area (the “middedorp”). These funds are reinvested directly into projects that improve the physical, social, and safety environment of central Stellenbosch.

Our Purpose

SITI was established to create a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive town centre through partnership and collaboration. Working alongside the Stellenbosch Municipality, SAPS, and local organisations, SITI implements supplementary services that enhance everyday life for residents, businesses, and visitors.

We believe that by combining community initiative with structured urban management, we can create a sustainable and welcoming environment that reflects the character and spirit of Stellenbosch.

Our Work in Action

Since its launch, SITI has become a visible presence in the community through:

  • 24/7 patrol and response vehicles ensuring safety and visibility in the SITI zone.

  • A dedicated control room monitoring CCTV cameras and coordinating incident responses.

  • Urban management teams maintaining cleaner streets, clear signage, and public spaces.

  • Social upliftment programmes aimed at addressing homelessness and supporting vulnerable residents.

  • Community engagement initiatives that encourage collaboration and communication between local stakeholders.

Together, these efforts contribute to a vibrant, well-managed, and resilient central Stellenbosch.

FUNDING

Funded through a modest levy on municipal rates contributed by local property owners, SITI supports and manages essential public realm services such as enhanced security, proactive urban management, and targeted social development initiatives. Additionally, SITI actively promotes Stellenbosch as the premier visitor destination and cultural heart of the Winelands.

MANAGEMENT

Guided by a dedicated Board of Directors and supported by community stakeholders, SITI operates independently yet collaboratively with the Stellenbosch Municipality, ensuring transparent governance and effective oversight.
